About Batcombe Vale
A hidden 120-acre valley kept intentionally small
Protecting the Valley First
Batcombe Vale is a privately owned Somerset valley that has welcomed campers for over four decades.
We’ve deliberately chosen to keep our campsite small: just 30 spacious pitches, with room to camp comfortably and enjoy the landscape around you.
Pitches sit beneath mature trees, beside the lake, or overlooking the wildflower meadow.
We could easily have added more pitches—but to us, protecting the quiet, unspoiled character of this valley will always matter more.
Deep Roots in the Somerset Countryside
Long before welcoming its first campers over forty years ago, this land was shaped by rural farm life. That heritage is still alive today. Friesian cattle graze the surrounding hills, red deer wander down from the woods, and fresh spring water—naturally filtered through the surrounding hills—supplies the site directly from our private borehole.
As the years have passed, we’ve chosen to let nature take the lead. A few years ago, we retired the old rowing boats on the lake and handed the water back to wildlife. Today, it stands as a quiet sanctuary for kingfishers, herons, and dragonflies.
Nature Leads the Way
Batcombe Vale sits harmoniously within a working Somerset landscape. Friesian cattle graze the surrounding hills, red deer wander down from the woods, and wild hares, pheasants, and birds of prey are regular visitors across the valley.
Fresh spring water from our private borehole supplies the site, naturally filtered through the hills.
From retiring the rowing boats to restore our wildlife lake, to protecting our cider orchard and wildflower meadows, to caring for our bee colonies, we quietly step back so the natural ecosystem can thrive.
We manage the campsite sustainably - explore our commitment to sustainability here.
A Place People To Return To
Creating an adults-only sanctuary was a natural evolution for Batcombe Vale. We wanted to offer a place where guests can properly step away from busy lives, enjoy unbroken dark skies, and experience a slower, simpler pace.
The greatest compliment we receive isn't awards - it's welcoming familiar faces back year after year.
"We have just returned from our fifth visit to Batcombe Vale and can never fault it."

We're honoured to have been named Best Campsite in Somerset on Channel 4's The Perfect Pitch, but it is our returning guests who matter most.
Quiet. Unhurried. Familiar.
We Look Forward to Welcoming You
Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, we hope you’ll discover what generations of guests already have.
Space to breathe.
Time to slow down.
