Why adult-only camping in Somerset is the Perfect Escape

Somerset Camping Blog

There's a particular kind of quiet we all can benefit from. Not silence but birdsong, the creak of guy ropes, a distant wood pigeon - a quality of stillness that most campsites simply don't offer. That's why at Batcombe Vale, that quiet is the whole point.

We're one of a small number of genuinely adult-only campsites in Somerset, and as a result it shapes everything: the pace of the mornings, the atmosphere around the fire pit in the evenings, the way guests tend to actually talk to each other.

What makes adult-only different in practice?

It's about curating an experience for people who want unhurried mornings, evenings relaxing by a firebowl. In other words, it's the freedom to leave the noise of daily life genuinely behind.

Just 30 pitches - you bring what you need. And the site does the rest.

Batcombe is the right setting for it

Within 30 minutes of your pitch, you have Hauser & Wirth, The Newt in Somerset, Stourhead, and Bruton's increasingly brilliant food scene. But you don't have to go anywhere.

The lake, the dark skies, and the hills rolling toward Glastonbury are enough. In fact, many guests tell us they barely leave the site.

When the Campsite Is Enough

At Batcombe Vale, the vale itself is the draw. For example, mornings might mean coffee by the lake, watching the mist lift off the water. Meanwhile evenings tend to unfold slowly around a firebowl, with the kind of sky above you that reminds you how rarely you actually look up.

Because you're not being pulled in every direction, you set the pace entirely. That, ultimately, is what makes it different.

Bring your dog

Dogs are genuinely welcome here. Not only that, but the surrounding countryside is perfect walking territory — quiet lanes, open fields and footpaths that feel made for an unhurried wander. As a result, the relaxed atmosphere means your dog will decompress just as much as you do.
