No Mow May

A Low-Impact Retreat: 'No Mow May'  -  Our meadows go wild in May to feed the bees and protect Somerset's wildlife.

Sustainability at Batcombe Vale

Camping with care for the landscape

Thank you for choosing a camping holiday. Camping is widely recognised as one of the lower-impact ways to enjoy time outdoors, and that is something we value at Batcombe Vale.

We believe great camping is about more than beautiful surroundings. It is about looking after the landscape, respecting wildlife and creating a place where nature can thrive alongside the people who come to enjoy it.

Batcombe Vale is intentionally small and low-key. By limiting the number of pitches and keeping things simple, we help protect the dark skies, preserve the natural beauty of the vale and encourage a slower, more mindful way to experience the outdoors.

If that sounds like your kind of camping, check availability and book your pitch here.

How we care for the vale

🌿 Protecting land & wildlife

Nature comes first at Batcombe Vale.

Our short camping season allows the land time to recover naturally, while carefully managed mowing helps protect nesting birds, wildflowers and biodiversity.

By keeping the number of pitches low and leaving areas of the farm undisturbed, we create space for birds, insects and other wildlife to thrive.

🐝 Supporting biodiversity

We are always looking for ways to improve and enhance the natural environment around us.

Since 2020, we have planted more than 50 new trees across the site, alongside native planting, hedgerows and wildflower areas that support local wildlife.

Our wildflower banks and beehives help provide valuable habitats for bees and other pollinating insects.

🌳 Making thoughtful choices

Sustainability is about the small decisions we make every day.

  • Push-button showers help reduce unnecessary water use.
  • All bookings, tickets and administration are managed digitally, making Batcombe Vale a paperless campsite.
  • Through our partnership with McCarthy Marland, waste and recycling is sorted off-site to help maximise recycling.
  • Bramley hand soap and sanitiser are provided in our shower facilities, chosen for their natural ingredients and sustainability credentials.

🌙 Protecting dark skies & encouraging low-impact travel

We use minimal outdoor lighting to reduce light pollution, protect nocturnal wildlife and preserve Somerset’s spectacular night skies.

We also offer special rates for cyclists and provide access to nearby walking routes, encouraging guests to explore the area in a more sustainable way.

🐾 Supporting Somerset wildlife

Our tree planting, wildflower management and seasonal mowing are informed by guidance from Somerset Wildlife Trust.

We are proud to donate a percentage of our 2026 season income to support their conservation work across Somerset.
