- More than 28 days: full refund minus a £25 administration fee.
- 14–28 days: 50% refund of remaining balance.
- Within 14 days: no refund.
Changing dates within 14 days of arrival is treated as a cancellation and we're unable to offer a refund. Much as we'd love to help, the weather is sadly beyond our control. We'd strongly recommend camping-specific travel insurance when booking, which can cover weather-related cancellations.
Batcombe Vale became adult-only because so many guests told us the same thing — they needed somewhere to properly stop. It's what keeps the valley calm and unhurried for everyone here.
Guests aged 16-17 are very welcome when accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or a responsible adult aged 21+.
We welcome motorhomes, campervans and caravans up to 7m in length and tents up to 7m x 5m in size. If your tent is larger than this, please get in touch directly as we may be able to accommodate you during quieter periods.
The approach lane is a steep single‑track down into the vale, with a relatively tight turning circle near reception. For this reason we accept units up to 7m only.
If you are comfortable with such a lane, take it steadily and the campsite waiting at the bottom will make it worth your while. Guests have successfully navigated this descent for over 40 years, making it a classic part of the adventure. And the view is breathtaking!
Yes, we’re a dog-friendly site and love welcoming well-behaved and quiet dogs.
- Up to 2 dogs per pitch (3 by prior arrangement if we’re quiet)
- £3 per dog, per day
- Dogs must be kept on leads at all times
- Please exercise dogs away from pitches
- Please clean up promptly and use the bins in the recycling area.
Thank you for helping us keep the site enjoyable and comfortable for all our guests.
Yes, a number of electric hook-up pitches are available (10amps) and can be selected at the time of booking.
Yes, an up-to-date SatNav will bring you to the top of our clearly signposted drive. From there, follow the track down to the campsite.
The approach to the campsite begins with stunning views from the top of the vale before curving down a quarter-mile single-track lane into a beautiful, secluded spot. It's a hidden corner of Somerset that feels properly remote - and that short descent is part of what makes it so special.
Cars have no difficulty at all. The lane is steep with a relatively tight turning circle near reception, so we accept motorhomes, campervans and single-axle caravans up to 7m only. It's a well-travelled route that guests have been navigating successfully for over 40 years - take it steadily and you'll arrive without any trouble.
Please stop at the reception hut to be welcomed, checked-in and be shown to your allocated pitch. If there is no one at reception, please call the main number (01749 372373). Please never proceed onto the campsite without checking-in, even if you are staying with others who have already arrived.
If you expect to arrive after 8pm, please call us in advance to check.
Check-out is by 11am prompt. However, a late check-out is possible if your pitch is not booked for later that day - there is a charge of £5 to stay until 2pm. Please ask at reception if this is possible.
Each pitch has space for your tent and one car within our size limits.
Our hot showers are free and operated by push-button.
Batcombe Vale is designed to be a genuine digital detox so there is deliberately WiFi - one of the few places left where the default is to look up rather than down.
The good news is that all major networks have 4G coverage on site, and EE users will find 5G available - so you won't feel completely cut off from the world. You'll just find you don't reach for it as often as you thought.
We’re happy for guests to use fire bowls and non-disposable BBQs, as long as they are raised sufficiently off the ground so as not to burn the grass. Disposable BBQ's are not allowed at any time.
You can also rent a fire bowl kit from us which includes the fire bowl, a bag of logs and kindling. The cost is £10 for the first night, after that, the use of the fire bowl is free for the rest of your stay, no matter how long. If you need extra wood, a bag of kiln‑dried wood costs £8. No wood may be taken from the campsite or the surrounding fields.
When you leave, there’s no need to empty or clean out the fire bowl—just leave it on your pitch or return it to where you collected it and we’ll take care of the rest.
We ask everyone to be mindful of others by keeping noise low and behaving considerately. If you’re looking for a lively or late-night social scene, we won't be the right fit - but if peace and a slower pace are what you’re after, you’ll feel right at home.
- No amplified music is allowed at any time.
- Quiet hours are 11pm to 8am, so that everyone can enjoy a restful night’s sleep.
- We kindly ask all guests to avoid loud or inconsiderate behaviour at any time
If behaviour is disruptive, unsafe, abusive, or seriously inconsiderate, we reserve the right to ask guests to leave.
We used to, and many of our returning guests will remember them fondly. While we no longer offer fishing or the boats, our lake remains the peaceful heart of the vale - these days it's a dedicated wildlife habitat, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
To protect our delicate ecosystem and ensure everyone's safety, swimming, paddling, and watercraft, including paddleboards and kayaks, are not permitted on the water. This helps keep our lakes a quiet, undisturbed sanctuary for the local wildlife.
Batcombe Vale is blessed with wonderfully dark skies, free from the heavy light pollution of towns and cities. On clear nights, the valley transforms into a spectacular window to the cosmos, offering breathtaking views of the stars, planets, and the Milky Way.
To help preserve this natural wonder and protect our nocturnal wildlife, we keep outdoor lighting to an absolute minimum. We highly recommend stepping outside after dusk to experience the quiet magic of the night sky - and don't forget to pack a torch for moving around safely.
There are many beautiful walks directly from the site - maps and recommendations can be found at reception.
Bruton - only a couple of miles away - has several convenience stores, a cashpoint and a petrol station. The closest supermarkets are in Shepton Mallet and Frome, 15 mins drive away.
We provide information at reception about local walks, attractions, and events taking place in the area during your stay. Just ask us - we're always happy to help.
